“Schmigadoon!” e “The Lost Boys”, dois musicais da Broadway que estrearam há poucas semanas, são os recordistas de indicações ao Tony Awards este ano. "The Lost Boys" e "Schmigadoon!" receberam 12 indicações cada.

“Schmigadoon!” é uma adaptação da série da Apple TV+, e “The Lost Boys” é baseado no filme de vampiros adolescente de 1987. Eles vão concorrer com “Titaníque”, uma paródia do filme “Titanic” com a participação de Celine Dion, e “Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)”, uma comédia romântica original, na disputa pelo prêmio de melhor musical novo.

A cerimônia de premiação acontecerá no dia 7 de junho no Radio City Music Hall, em Nova York, com apresentação da cantora Pink e transmissão pela CBS.

A lista ainda reflete a onda de celebridades nos palcos: entre os indicados estão os astros de cinema John Lithgow, Daniel Radcliffe, Rose Byrne e Lesley Manville.

Na categoria de melhor peça inédita, os indicados incluem "Liberation", de Bess Wohl, que na segunda-feira ganhou o Prêmio Pulitzer de Teatro, além de "The Balusters", de David Lindsay-Abaire; "Giant", de Mark Rosenblatt; e "Little Bear Ridge Road", de Samuel D. Hunter.

Entre os outros indicados para melhor atuação em papéis principais estão dois veteranos da Broadway: Nathan Lane (vencedor de três prêmios Tony e atualmente estrelando "Death of a Salesman") e Kelli O'Hara. O'Hara foi indicada em todas as suas últimas nove apresentações na Broadway, incluindo seu espetáculo atual — uma remontagem de "Fallen Angels". (Ela já ganhou uma vez, por "The King and I".)

As concorrentes ao prêmio de melhor atriz em musical são todas indicadas pela primeira vez: Sara Chase (“Schmigadoon!”), Stephanie Hsu (“The Rocky Horror Show”), Caissie Levy (“Ragtime”), Marla Mindelle (“Titaníque”) e Christiani Pitts (“Two Strangers”). A disputa pelo prêmio de melhor ator em musical, dominada durante toda a temporada por Joshua Henry, de “Ragtime”, também conta com Nicholas Christopher (“Chess”), Luke Evans (“The Rocky Horror Show”), Sam Tutty (“Two Strangers”) e Brandon Uranowitz (“Ragtime”).

Lane, Radcliffe e Lithgow (“Giant”) foram todos indicados a melhor ator em peça, juntamente com Will Harrison (“Punch”) e Mark Strong (“Édipo”). Byrne e O'Hara, que atuam juntas em "Fallen Angels", enfrentarão Carrie Coon ("Bug"), Susannah Flood ("Liberation") e Manville ("Édipo") na disputa pelo prêmio de melhor atriz em peça teatral.
